Etiquette and the stud dog owner.

There are several points of etiquette that should be observed when using an outside stud dog. The stud dog owner, contrary to popular opinion, owns the dog and may refuse to accept your bitch. The polite method of inquiring about a stud dog, is to inform the owners that you would like to use the dog, which bitch you are thinking of mating to him and some facts about her bloodlines and show history. A stud dog owner naturally prefers to have bitches of an above average calibre and of suitable bloodlines, to go to their dog. Ask for copies of the dog's pedigree and relevant certificates, and in turn do the same.

Once it is agreed that the bitch can go to the dog, give the approximate time when the bitch is due into season. When the bitch does come into season, ring the stud dog owner and tell them of the good news, give  an approximate date of mating if you know when the bitch is normally mated. This allows the stud dog owner to plan around other bitches coming to the dog.

NOTE: Before a bitch is approved, Alpinarc Kennels will also need to be given a certified true copy of your girls hip and elbow x-ray results.
